What´s the difference between the "Windows Vista Beta 2 SDK" and "Windows
Vista Beta 2 WDK"?

The WDK is content primarily intended for device driver developers. The SDK
is content primarily intended for app developers. Specifically the WDK has
tools and API information designed to help in designing, building and
testing drivers. The Windows SDK has tools and API information designed to
help in designing and building Windows apps, especially those targeting
Windows Vista. Ideally, the two toolkits can work together to help optimize
your dev experience.

Hope that helps.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your answer.

So, if I do not want to develop device drivers, I can live without the
Windows Developers Kit?

* What are the recommended steps for installing development tools in
Vista Beta 2? I have seen the .net FX version is still the same
(2.0.50727), so I thought I'd install VS.net 2005 and then the Vista
SDK. Is that okay?
* Does it enable developing XAML applications in VS.net 2005?
* Are there templates for writing Sidebar Gadgets? If not, how to I get
them?

BR,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Yes, you can install VS 2005 and then the Windows SDK Beta 2 on your Vista
Beta 2 machine.

If you want to enable XAML app development in VS 2005 then you'll also need
to install the VS 2005 Extensions for WinFX.

NOTE: you must install this last.

I'm not sure if there are VS templates for writing SideBar Gadgets. I'll
look into this and get back to you...

Regarding the VS templates for SideBar Gadgets: these do not exist today and
there are currently no plans to implement these in the near future.

Sorry about that.
